The Pottsville Free Public Library does not currently provide direct access to downloadable ebooks (we're working on it!), but that doesn't mean our patrons don't have any access to ebooks.
Project Gutenberg is the original source for free e-books on the Internet. These are all books that were previously published and are now in the public domain. Great place to find the classics, most of which can be downloaded for use on most devices and computers. (Parents, keep this site in mind for your kid's summer reading assignments!)
The Online Books Page hosted by the University of Pennsylvania has gathered together the records for more than two million free e-books from all over the Internet. Here you will find non-English language e-books, banned books, featured women writers, and other collections.
Infobase Ebooks -- Use your library card to access these reference books from home! Subjects include U.S. and world history, science experiments, geography, and health. (Note that these are not downloadable ebooks; you must maintain an Internet connection with this site in order to use the material.)
Britannica Ebooks -- Subjects include ancient civilizations, US history, American Indians, energy/fuels, scientists, social sciences, biotechnology, and the human body/health. Use your Pottsville Library card to log in. (Note that these are not downloadable ebooks; you must maintain an Internet connection with this site in order to use the material.)
Salem Press Ebooks -- Select "Library Card Number" then type in your card number to sign in and use these reference books. Subjects include literature, lives and events in world history, science, and health. (Note that these are not downloadable ebooks; you must maintain an Internet connection with this site in order to use the material.)POWER Library -- Check out "BookFlix" for grades pre-K -- 3. Adults and older students can click on "eBooks on EBSCOhost" to use thousands of books across all major subject areas. Use your Pottsville Library card number to access the POWER Library Network.

Free Library of Philadelphia -- Register as an Access Pennsylvania user and get a library card for the Free Library online. They will mail out your new library card, and then you can download ebooks from Philadelphia. Audio ebooks are also available for download.
The following Schuylkill County public libraries also offer ebooks to their cardholders. Visit the library's website for details on how to obtain a library card for that library.
